So, as I know many of you appreciate my art, I thought I'd offer you the chance to get a customized piece of your very own! It's december and christmas is coming up. Maybe you want to give a piece of art to someone else?

Black and white sketch of your character: 5€
Coloured painting of your character: 10€
Anything beyond that (elaborate backgrounds, several characters, complicated painting, anything else you can think of): write to me, and we'll discuss it.

Payments will be handled through Paypal.

Examples:
Painting: https://2img.net/h/i37.photobucket.com/albums/e89/Aldriona/RyleenReading.jpg
Painting: https://2img.net/h/i37.photobucket.com/albums/e89/Aldriona/lyranne.jpg

Sketch: https://2img.net/h/i37.photobucket.com/albums/e89/Aldriona/Sketch-Emeline.jpg
(Yes, I know they're all female. I do prefer to draw females, but it doesn't mean I can't handle males)

Waiting list:
1: Svartvinge
2: Quintilius

You mean this one?

http://aldriona.deviantart.com/art/Commission-Nameya-124873220

That's Nameya, one of my characters.

I can't tell you how happy I am with how it came out, well worth the commision I paid.

<3 Ry's art, and also sneaky stealth bump.

EDIT:

By the way, my avatar was done by her too.

Sorry Ryleen, I may sound rude now, and I donīt mean to be rude... But I kinda have a hard time getting over this entire thread..
I mean.. I (for one, but maybe itīs realy just me) would never ask money from people I rp with, for drawing their chars. Ok, maybe my "art" is crap compared to yours (yea I know... D: *is jealous*), but still I just wouldnīt ask money.. I draw, because I enjoy doing aít, and I draw for other people because I like to make them happy when they get the pic. And asking money for it just takes the fun out of it for those people...
But I guess Iīm not you, so I canīt judge. Good luck with it..

No offence to you Daid (i actually consider your drawings rather good too) but i assume you draw as a hobby?

Ryleen has studied for this, its something She may one day decide to make a living from. So, aside from the time and effort She puts into her art (which would incline me to offer payment for alone), She has to asses the kind of value that people place on her creations.

Ask Nick (Opathu) if he would willing write a book for free.

Sure, people's enjoyment is one thing, but you have to make a living and many artists on deviant art do the same. I'm sure most people offer to do things for their friends first before going more broadly commercial. My Aunt was an artist and, although they helped display her work when she was trying to generate a client base, we paid her for the pieces that we have (*ponders how much they would be worth now...* Wink ) because the materials and time spent still had worth even though she was doing them for family.

Yuss, often a difficult transition that for an artist of any kind. When ya hit the mark where you mean to live off of what you do, or at least take the first steps toward that level, you have to stop giving out too many freebies. For instance, I have a friend who is trying his very best to become a professional musician and he's quite close to his goal. He keeps being asked to do gigs for free by friends and stuff, and every time they are surprised when he say "I'll do it, but not for free"

People fail to realize that this is what he studied for, what he worked very hard to accomplish and he did not do all that just to play for free, just like you don't ask your accountant friend to do your books for free or your psycologist friend to listen to all your problems for free. Ofcourse, artists can do shit for their friends for free when they feel like it, but don't expect it from them, that is putting lower worth to their trade than that of others.

That's all right, Daid, I understand how you think. And Vypra did a good job at explaining why I do it already.

I've been selling my art for a long time already, but it's been pretty unofficial and spread by word of mouth. I very much enjoy making art for people, creating their ideas. But to put eight, ten or more hours of work into something and then just give it away doesn't feel right, to be honest. I've been considering making a thread for quite some time, to let others know about it as well, since I'd love to get more work to do now that I have a lot of time to spend painting. (See thread on polyphasic sleep) And, of course, I'm a student so it really wouldn't hurt to get that little bit of extra money, I won't deny that.

But I also know that most people can't afford my big paintings. They aren't over priced, not at all if you convert them into pay per hour. But it's still a big job. So instead, I thought I'd offer these small ones, that will only require an hour or two of work and that more people might feel that they can afford.

But I understand fully those who prefer not to pay for art, I do. Especially when there are so many artists who are happy to give their work for nothing but the appreciation and thanks.

And, considering the small popularity of the thread, you are probably more close to the general feelings about it here on WaL. But at least I tried, right? Now I know Smile

What can I add to this?
I am really fond of your art, Ryleen, but I will not buy any paintings from you either. Partly because I can't afford, partly because I am not so bad at drawing when it comes to character sketches (although I never take it up to the level of painting)...
Keep up the good work, though, and I hope you'll find people who are willing to pay for your art! (I know Hagis did for the Chtulhu bag, for example...)

I'm not really an artist or anything, but there are things that i'm better at than others, so i guess i can compare a bit after all.
As i've already said once, i prefer not to discuss topics at all when i'm not sure that i can do it without insulting the opposite side. People have different mindsets, and i'm not trying to force my opinion as an absolute truth... just like i'm not supposed to agree with anyone, even if i understand their reasoning.
Anyway, i'll only say that when i'm doing something for a friend that he or she cannot do and i can, i never consider it something i should be paid for. After all, i gain something that can't be bought with all the money in the world when i'm done: honest gratitude. You can even say that i'm not doing it for a friend at all, but rather for myself, for self-satisfaction. And, of course, i can't be forced to do something if i don't want to, or just don't feel like doing at the moment.
On the other hand, personal feelings should go aside the moment there's money involved. It's something i have to do no matter what because i'm already getting paid for it. And i certainly don't want any of my friends to feel like being my employer or something.
Again, i'm not trying to say that Ryleen is either right or wrong here. It's just something that i wouldn't have done in her place.

There's a distinct difference between just having a talent and doing it as a hobby, and actually being educated in it. It is a natural step to become reckongnised as a professional to take money for your services. Ofcourse, as I said any artist is free to decide when not to take money, but it is within their right to ask for it.

People are questioning why Ryleen is offering commissions for money? Cool. Am I bothered tho'? I'm not bothered tho'. Do I look bothered? Does my face look bothered? Face, look, face, look.... bothered?! I'M NOT BOTHERED!

This is what makes me lose hope of ever being able to make money from my own drawing.

It can't be sold either. And money has to come from some place.

(And maybe you can buy gratitude by donating to charity or giving money to a hobo?)

Leaf has a point here. Not everyone from WeAreLegion is a close friend of Ryleen. She may make free art for her friends as a gift, but there may be many people using this forum who aren't that close to her, yet like her art, and might be interested in buying a character portrait from her. And there's nothing wrong with her asking money from them.

After spending more time than I care to remember with life drawing, I have no problem with nudes, no. But I will not do anything pornographic. And yes, I think I'd feel better if you spoke to Unnur about it first.

I don't see me claiming that you said anything in that quoted passage. Snicka caught the general idea/point that I wanted to convey. It was an exaggerated and imagined conversation which was only inspired by what you said, not meant as an attack or whatever you took it as.

PS. Are you calling my mom a pikey? ;D

Save your inspiration for your role-plays instead of letting it be the origin of plagued and fungi comments.

@Ryleen: Let me give you my congratulations on your work beforehand. Let me tell you that your work is quite impressive. I have no use for a drawing right now but if I ever do you'll be the first to know.

@Daidrax: Your point is valid, your opinion is a bless, I believe you're most welcome to share it which leads me to the last "at".

I don't suppose there's more art from Ryleen we can see? Even though I'm not interested in buying anything at the moment I wouldn't like browsing a couple of works she's done.
