| ((copied from: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=12304232165&sid=1 - Vyp))The battle plans were ready, inspecting them for a tenth time wouldn't change anything, but sometimes you have to play safe; too much is at risk now, even for a mercenary. The last attack, however dramatic -and useless in the eyes of some- it was, delayed the Lordaeron Regiment and forced them to regroup. They cannot risk to charge into enemy territory without preparation. Jahraka grinned, he entered a battlefield which no matter the outcome would be a victory. He looked at his own documents, finely described mercenary profiles with their skills and battle experience. Some of them were truly far better fighters than what the Horde had to offer. If only the Horde had the intention to use them ... The mistrust from within the Blood Pact was ridiculous to put it mildly. He didn't care much about reputation. If he did, why would he have chosen to become a mercenary? As if there was much of a choice anyway ... It will take the Regiment about one week to descend from the peaks of Dun Algaz and march cross the swamps of the Wetlands; enough time for the Blood Pact to finally start working together and )gather their troops in the key position that shall decide the fate of this very Campaign! Jahraka took a sip from his honey mead before pointing his filthy finger at the map to indicate where the battle should take place. A contented grin appeared on his face. It sure would be interesting to see if the Horde could work together ... Together to stand their ground at the Thandol Span! OOC: What: Large-scale world PvP event with an RP background story. Location: Wetlands , Thandol Span Date: Saturday, 30 January 2010 Time: 20.00 Realm Time (CET) For roleplayers, deaths do not happen in character. We do not want to end anyone’s story over this. You may play as injured should you “die” due to game mechanics, but this is entirely up to you and how you decide to play it. Staying in character is recommended, but not required. Everyone is free to attend, and everyone is equally welcomed. ______________________________________________________________ Rules: Corpse-camping is not allowed. Both parties assemble on the Thandol Span respectively Alliance on the Wetlands side and Horde on the Arathi Highlands side. On signal the battle takes place and a total of five rounds is expected to happen. There will be regroup points where the raid shall retreat to their territory until further notice of the raid leader for the next clash. Depending on who wins 3 out of 5 rounds the winning raid will cross Thandol Span (having let the losing raid regroup in their territory beforehand) for a final push and attack to end the event. Extra: Note that if your character is not able to attend due to ‘being neutral’ or anything similar, we request your presence on an alt or simply by pretending to be someone else for a day. There is cross-faction communication between the two organisers; Elena and Jahraka. The consequence of this battle is decided by who wins, storylines are ready for both outcomes. Special Note: The event is a open Wolrd Player vs Player event with a solid Role Play background story. Although open for everyone we demand that you attend only if you can expect also to lose and not to whine about it later on. | |

| This doesn't seem to have attracted nearly enough attention. In some ways this battle is the most important so far. The chance to severly dent the confidence of the oncoming army should ahve every self-respecting Hordie frothing at the mouth...but not a single response here ...oh well. I will say, that yes, despite what happens on saturday, there will of course be a battle next week. The Issue for us is one of pride. Do we let them come, triumphant, another victory under their belt? Or do we make them drag themselves into Arathi, tails between their legs; finally having seen that they are not invincible after all? I know which one i'd prefer. I have some plans...once i've reassurance they're not total rubbish, i will share them with you. One things is certain though...no matter how much we improve our team work or tactics, if we're outnumbered 3:1 we're going to loose If everybody brings at least one freind, we may match their numbers again (event though they gather more every time so it will be tough). But, If we -can't- win...lets at least make them fight hard for this one hmm? | |

| If I may offer a few tactical tips, without giving too much away to the other side:- When your enemy has a larger/better equipped force than yourself, only a fool would face them head on.
• Use terrain. Choose where YOU, not THEY, wish to battle (pick your battle site to suit your forces, not theirs)
• Divide and conquer.
• Bribe, spy, blackmail and use any other diplomatic or scheming advantage to win allies (or ensure an ally leaves your enemy).
• There is a long history of successful insurgency campaigns, fought using guerrilla tactics (hit and run), against a numerically superior enemy.
• Gather intelligence (by whatever means) about your enemy's strength, disposition, troops numbers and so on.
• Remove (take out) leaders and the rest will crumble.
• Have a stealth unit available for sowing mayhem in the enemy's ranks
• Keep a reserve force available
And to repeat: only a fool would face a superior enemy in head-on battle. As Opathu Two-Smile once said: "There's more than one way to skin a leper gnome, baby!"OOC: your enemy are well-geared raiders with good communications, used to fighting raid-style encounters. Don't fight them on their terms. Change the order of battle to suit you. ((Just facing off in two sides to rush head on is guaranteed to make you lose))

| The sun was starting to set over Loch Modan, stinging the eyes of the dwarf guards on the dam. Few of them took the time to look down the side of the dam itself. Had they, they would have seen a troll slowly making his way up the side of the dam, climbing with the help of tools and carrying a heavy backpack.
When he reached the place where water was let out through the dam, he reached for the contents of his backpack, picking out a few explosive charges. With great care, he placed the charges, measuring down to the centimeter. Once the charges were set, he climbed back off the dam quickly, a fuse trailing behind him. Greeting him as he reached the cliffs was a big panther that had been watching from the bushes.
The explosion caused a deep rumble that shook the entire dam.
The dwarves on top of it panicked, running around and ringing warning bells. Water was rushing out of the dam now, through several cracks. Luckily, it didn't seem like the cracks were expanding. After some investigaion it was concluded that the dam would hold.
Nontheless, large amounts of water was rushing out, flooding the marsh below. Soon, the water levels were rising throughout the entire marsh, drowing out roads and dry paths, making navigation difficult if not impossible.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The invading army might find themselves in waist deep water in an hour or so, but we do not intend to blow up the entire dam, just make things difficult for them. I've heard wading in plate armour is fun.

| From a hill close to the dam (yet out of sight) the troll is watching the result of his labour. A Wicked smile spreads across his face as he likes what he see. The Mighty Panther purring by his side. The troll looks down on his companion and makes a motion to start moving. "Come on Caithhan ... It be time ta move nao". And so they slipps In to the vegetation of nature, tru the hills to the north. | |

| *Second hint* There are areas next to the bridge, and inside it, where people can be placed (ranged, stealthed)... | |

| Thanks for the tips Opathu, they came in handy and were to some extend realized in the battle. The Horde draw the bigger one in this and with this we open a new chapter in the Campaign.
Thanks for all who attented and hope to see you next saturday as well.
