PostSubject: Damned BT!   Damned BT! EmptyTue Feb 10, 2009 6:48 pm

Stupid Canutes decided that it was far more amusing to come and sort my line out on Friday rather than yesterday, so I am still awaiting being able to get Tiscali to sort their life out and give me internet!

So now I am looking at the middle of next week to return to hitting random pixels!

I have now moved on (thanks to being able to have all my stuff back with me) to playing LotR: Battle for Middle Earth and may even venture back to the turn-based Warlords 4! GIVE ME THE INTERNET QUICKLY!!!!!!!

I can remember playing the original warlords, and Monkey Island but of course.

The duelling via insults of the first game was pure winnage.

1. Don't knock it until you try it.
2. Go in without expectations - neither bad nor good ones.

Try it ffs.

PS. Even if it's not as good as the third, you'll still like it just because it's MI.

Playing that game with a friend on his Mac was what led me down the path that is currently aimed at WoW. I remember one friend referring to the Dwarves as "The T blokes" because of the axe in their banner!

Just killed off Dunharrow and am about to wipe out Westfold before making Helm's Deep a pile of rubble. I think I'll be wiping out Minas Tirith's armies then, but I don't think I've gone beyond Helm's Deep before.

So is that an old LotR based game?
LotR games are always a bit odd in the way they twist Tolkien's mythos to be more suitable for game mechanics...

I agree with Snicka here, in the end of LoTR the good guys have to win!

I once started the Battle for Middle Earth good campaign, just out of curiosity. I suspected nothing until the Balrog fight. When I defeated the Balrog, came the first surprise: Gandalf did not fall into the shadow, but killed the Balrog and went on with the rest of the Fellowship. I thought: "WTF?"
Then I reached the forest of Lothlorien. Gandalf was with the Fellowship, now in a white robe (where he changed, no explanation), and they helped Haldir and his troop fight a bunch of orcs who were sieging Caras Galadhon. Now that was the point I had enough of lore-rapes, and quit the game.

Anyone remember Lords of Magic? I fucking loved that game, and I owned at it... my armies would kick ass and ask questions later. I loved interrogating others with my Rogues (or whatever their names was).

If you mean Warlords when you say "So is that an old LotR based game?", then yes and no. It's a hybrid of LotR and Warhammer ideas and their own storyline (when then got around to creating one). But it is quite an interesting game (or at least was when I was playing it) and was always good fun to wipe the floor with the opposition.

As to Battle for Middle Earth, I'm always happy to make the bad guys win. I've pillaged my way through Rohan and am now getting ready to muller Minas Tirith. I'm just out to conquer the world, don't care what side I use to do it!

On more serious stuff:
BT have now sorted out my phone line but now Tiscali have told me that it takes 10-14 days to switch a line, so I'm hoping to be online by a week on Friday now!
Still, it's given me a chance to wipe out Rohan with Uruks and get close to cleaning up Minas Tirith so it's not all bad, is it?

Seriously? I also liked that game alot! Hardly ever found anyone else who did. Even though all the clichés, it was really fun. And then those LOL bugs (which allowed you to get infinite reasources among other things), the crappy AI, highly imbalances races... I still pluck it out from the shelf and play it now and then.

Torture>Interrogate.
Seriously, a faery torturing a night elf necromancer for spells... gotto love it Smile
