PostSubject: WoW absence - should be very brief   Tue Dec 16, 2008 10:24 pm

Unfortunately my lappy has been hacked by a trojan. Fortunately, having No Script on Firefox has probably saved me any major issues. (Special note to you all, if you don't have that add-on then get it!)

Unfortunately it means that I need to work out what it is and then get a patch to fix it and then sort out my virus checker situation and get Windows Defender (paralysed since the Trojan hit, I think) back up and running.

Fortunately, my work computer has been immune (or unattacked) to it, so I will be able to post on forums from time to time, but don't expect to see me in game before the weekend. If you do, please make sure that it is me and not some arsehole hacking me.

May be the same trojan that hit me. I ran a scan with Advast and then vaulted it, then deleted it and the folder where it originated from... and after that I ran System Restore to a point before the incident. Presto, fixo.

Hmmm ... I met a "Gurfang" in Orgrimmar last night, dressed in drag, offering tricks for "a quick boost in 2 v2 kkkkk?! xD".

Can't say I noticed anything different though.

1 minor problem with the lappy, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook etc...) doesn't work. The links for the shortcuts are missing, though I'm sure that they are still somewhere in the computer. My major problem is that I don't have the discs, just the info saved on a partitioned area of the hard drive. Anyone got any suggestions on what I could do to get it to work?

No chance! After all the fun that Nick had with his I am more convinced than ever that Macs are for music and art enthusiasts but definitely not for gamers!

The safest and most non-annoying would be to get a PC with a Linux/Unix Operating System (like Ubuntu for example, granted it's more of it's own OS). I would unless I was too afraid to get into complications while installing it, I'm not worried about running it.

More computer fun! My cousin, a company IT chief, had to rebuild my lappy due to various foibles that appear to have still been on the machine. Bonus is that I now have a non-partitioned hard drive and I have double the hard disk space!
