QUIT WITH THE "Bump" POSTS!

It's getting stupid, not to mention tiresome, when all you seem to have are posts with the word "bump" as the only word in them!

Yes, I know that this is picking on Xari (and CoT) again, but it's where I noticed it. And before anyone says "quit picking on people", I've tried to encourage "better practice" in recruitment threads but it doesn't seem to have had any effect.

Why am I bringing it up? Because the CoT recruitment thread's second page currently has 12 responses in it and 7 of them contain the word "bump". Not only that, but most of those 7 ONLY have that word!

Now I'm sorry if this seems like a fascist thing to say, but I'm firmly of the belief that if you can't come up with something constructive to say to bump your thread then you don't deserve to have it bumped! Other people (i.e. from outside of the guild who aren't alts of a guild member) bumping a thread with a positive comment on the guild (and, of course, the obligatory bump comment at some point in the post as well) is fine. Posting new info or saying that you've updated the OP in your latest reply is fine.

This post was brought to you by a thoroughly frustrated dyslexic with mild autism and a fucking painful back who is currently drugging himself up to the eyeballs so that the pain is bearable. This might not entirely excuse any replies that he might give to any comments people make on his rants, but it might just explain why he believes that his rants have a fair degree of merit in their content and why he so staunchly defends them.

It's the way of the internets. To bump is an officially accepted way to get your thread back up to attention level. Maybe write something else, but I don't see the need to. The reason for bumping isn't so that people who already read the thread can get some updates, it's so that people who hasn't seen it at all can read it. Sorry, Gurf, you're busting your balls over something that's as common in forums as leaves on a tree - or something like that.

Blues have said on several occasions that simply posting "bump" is not an acceptable post and is considered trolling/spam. The fact that they don't enforce this does not take away what they have said.

Also, it adds to the the annoyance factor which I don't particularly wish to have but end up having anyway.

Finally, the whole point of these rants (and I was a little annoyed to see the others locked) is me venting at the frustration of things that I observe. I asked for a ranting space here (so it could be kinda like the Wailing Cavern board on the ToC forum and not moderated because it was for venting one's spleen) but was told I could rant here so I am. It makes me feel that little bit better having done it and takes my mind off the pain in my lower back at the moment.

Having a rant about stuff is one thing, taking issue with specific people and their personal traits is another.

I once bumped around 20 posts at the same time on the Realm Forums using only the word "bump".

Though it was a Statement.

It was a time when there hadn't been any rp posts there for ages so I bumped every thread I could find with "[RP]" in the title - with a "bump"

Didn't get me banned that. Cause..it was a Statement. *nods sagely*

So I can rant about stuff that is done by particular people so long as I don't mention them? Considering the comments that have been made in forums and chat/shout boxes about particular people and the way they do things in the past I find that a little hard to swallow, tbh.

The simple facts are that people have done things repetitively, to the point at which I felt the need to rant about it. It's not like I've sat down and looked at the forums and said to myself "Hmm, I don't like the way he's doing that" and then moaned. I have been reading the forums for SSL pretty much since the start of the realm and have kept quiet a lot of the time.
I got the label of "Rp Police" because I had seen the realm go very low in terms of RP content in recruitment and the like and so made a comment. I have seen things (which I obviously can't comment on here but have commented on in the other rants) be written on the forums that I have read, been annoyed at and let go in the hope of improvement. I have let it go until I felt that posting a comment (sometimes even a PM) that might encourage a change. I have then seen that the advice was ignored and so have waited until I could take it no longer and decided to write a rant about it. As my disclaimer said, my back doesn't help my mood so much at the moment, however it's not like I've suddenly decided to get picky.

It's been a long time in coming for all of my comments, this latest one longest of all. I don't care if people disagree with them. The whole point is that it's a rant. People take Vex's rants with a pinch of salt and put it down to, as Nick often puts it, pills, booze and staying up to the silly hours. Why can't people just let my rants be rants and leave it at that? obviously, if people want to respond then they are free to and I will exercise my right to respond back. But seriously, why the sudden aggro over me expressing frustrations?

I don't recall any forum, that i have been an admin of, having a thread opened where one person was specifically taking somebody to task for their personality traits.

The Wailing Cavern on ToC forum was instigated by Rob and it was his choice to have it unmoderated.

I have no control over what is posted on the WoW forums, i do however, often take Si to task over his more extreme rantings.

People flaming each other in threads is an entirely different kettle of fish but depending on the nature of the flaming, i may also decide to lock or even delete those threads. My reasons for doing so will always be explained but at the end of the day, its my forum, it is (mostly) accessible to anybody that cares to look and i would prefer that the first impression that some people get of SSL-ers is a good one.

Oh, and if you think this is me being aggro, you really need to stop being oversensitive.

I gotta admit though, whining about content of bumping recruitement threads is original and one of the funniest whines I've ever seen.

And I browse all other WoW-europe forums too.

Am I to assume Gurfang left us? *points at the posts formerly tagged as from Gurfang, but now tagged as from Guest*

I rant against the nerds, twats and what have you. Occasionally, via my biting wit and humour (*COUGH*) one or two of them might even listen. But most times I think you have to leave it to life lessons to teach people how to behave "socially". And, believe it or not, the internet *is* a social place. It just happens to encourage solipsist behaviour ...

Only last night I had a raging series of battles with a warrior on the Isle of QQ, resulting in me dying 3 times and him x2 (not bad for a warlock vs melee situation, where I am at a disadvantage). What happened? Other Alliance people started to try and join in, resulting in me taking shelter in the inn. What did they do when I was there? /spit at me, repeatedly. (I lol'd in real life, btw!)

I guess sometimes we just have to accept others are as they are. And when we do rail against them, do it in such a way as to see the funny side, too.
