The Epilogue Empty
PostSubject: The Epilogue   The Epilogue EmptySun Oct 11, 2009 11:12 pm

To start with, Epilogue is a private roleplay realm which I've had a friend rant me and nagged me to try it out for a week or two. Not until last Saturday did I try it and the experiance there is beyond... words. It slaps the little effort for RP Blizzard have done right in their face and shows how far you can go when you got a community full of serious RP'ers and very dedicated GM's

While the normal realms RP is dying more, this brings the good stuff out of everything. When I first tried t I was abit unsure, new and confused, but the more I got into it, the more I got stuck with the constant roleplay everywhere, with about 90 players online. Seems small but imagine them all doing RP somewhere and it just requires 2 people to create it.

The whole realm is tweaked to be RP friendly meaning no gear is stronger than the other and you can request for gear on the website through ID links. It takes just a couple of seconds and you got it in your mail. You start of with only being able to get green and has you progress, and get higher influance, you can get more epic looking gear. All mobs are also atleast +74 in level and the GM's does alot to keep the enviroment lively with changing NPC's positions, adding new objects and removing, controlling NPC's, spawning monsters to fight in either mini or major events which you get rewarded in the end. And theres alot more than that.

One thing I can say is that it's worth a peak at it's website and you decide for yourself. I myself, got totally sold by it.

Hi guys,

I don't know if I mentioned this, but I'm writing a story (article) for the BBC News/Technology website about private servers. This looks like it would be a great example to include, especially given its roleplay base. I interview people either via email, MSN or Skype. If anyone wants to stay anonymous, I disguise their name and identity.

Tyragon -- would you be ok to talk with me about you/your friend's experience joining this RP private server? Do you know who runs the server and if they might also speak with me? I haven't come across an RP private server before, so this would be really interesting.

If you could PM on this site; or email me at nick@nickryan.net I would be extremely grateful.

thanks,

Oppy

This looks absolutely fascinating. The team have already put in a lot of work but there's still lots of development going on from what i read on their forums.

I'll sign up, give it a look and let you know what i think Very Happy

oh dear..

Reading their forums and they have long discussions about how Light hurts the undead, theories on how to actually heal undeads etc.

They are against creating a "hippie-love-peace-harmony server" because of the Lore of the game.

and the list goes witn more lore "elitist" crap.

I love em allready. I have made an account now.

Sure Oppy, I'd gladly help you. I could try and get some other from the realm and the creator. He is known as S, hes quite hard to find in-game. But if you sign up on the realms forum you can always PM him from there.

Anywho I also forgot to mention that this realm got it's own lore, if no one else than Quint have noticed, which I guess he have. Everything is possible as long as it's logical, like Lakeshire gets raided by Blackrock Orcs and is no longer a part of the Alliance, or Stonewatch Keep in Redridge gets recaptured and is again an Alliance fortress. Everything works, all you need to do is work up your power (influance) and sooner you can do everything by just telling a GM what you want.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY7fKQ6qC9E&feature=player_embedded

Is a guide of how you can work up if you got from small to big plots but you have no idea how to start them. With the help of someone whos a part of the community and is sort of a manager (GM) you can make them come to realise. The possibilities is pretty much endless as long as you let the GM's know so they can help.

Theres also lore thats scripted which is hinted around the website. The huge major events progresses it and it's like questing through a continent, theres mini and quite major things happening, but theres also a main story like with Wrathgate event in WotLK. This also lets players come forth has the major characters and some minor (influance depended on this), the GM's rarely use the major characters Blizz have created and often use them to create or continue things for the players.

I dunno why I added this but I thought it'd be fun. "Andul" is the usual character I play on the realm if anyone wonders, otherwise I got another character named Tyragon but don't play him often. ^^

This server sounds good and all, though the one problem it can cause is too lessen ssl's rp community further , which in my opinion, would be a big dent :S

I think the Pleasure Pits can actually be managable in-game on that server. With succubi NPC:s and bloodthistle vendors.

I know Torgadon which is why I took some caution into announcing it. But I rather share it instead of watching how my friends struggle with the RP, either that or end up quiting. I aint leaving retail WoW but I rather enjoy the time of RP than struggle with something that I know is a dead end and eventually will hit the bottom.

So I took the chance to try this realm while it is pretty new.

I believe it's been adverticed on the main SSL RP guilds' websites a few months ago.
And yeah, it sounds great and all... But why do you play WoW, anyway? If it's only for RP, then WoW is not your best choice (if not the worst one) due to major popularity. Epilogue won't provide you either PvP or PvE at a level even close to WoW. So basically, it's worth trying, and maybe playing there for a month or two... But i play WoW for over 2 years now, and i seriously doubt any private server has the potential to keep me interested for that long.

PostSubject: Re: The Epilogue   The Epilogue EmptyMon Oct 12, 2009 5:45 pm

Avior, i've been playing WoW for 5 years - (roughly) 2 and a half on a pvp server and 2 and half on SSL. I never thought i'd be playing the game this long so who can say what will happen on Epilogue?

Anyway, i spent the last 3 hours wandering round, trying to get a feel of the place and i can say 'Its WoW...but not as we know it' Wink

First thing you need to remember is that this is still open beta. There's still lots of bugs and stuff that's not active yet ( eg, when i logged on, the mail boxes were down while they tested something) and i had to disable all my addons because they were causing some problems but the team seem very helpful and are keen to have our feedback...oh, and if you join /ooc, -everybody- is in there; Horde and Alliance and you'll soon start to find old freinds among them Smile

There's quite a nice feel to the place. Everybody seems happy to muck in and give each other advice and the whole set-up is geared towards rewarding rp rather than grinding instances or bg's.

The sub-class system looks quite interesting (ie, you can be mage, warrior, whatever...but your sub-class could be that you're also a guard or an explorer and you get tokens for playing within your sub-class) but i didn't really have time to check it beyond seeing that it had a lot of potential.

Basically, what i'd say to you all is: if you're at a bit of a loose end and would like to be part of developing a whole new way of playing WoW, where you can actually effect the game world, ooc-ers are actually reprimanded and GM's regularly take a hand in helping develop rp events and storylines, this could be for you. If you're still having fun in WoW, don't feel the need to leave the grind behind you and get quickly frustrated with having to get to grips with a new system then leave it alone Razz

I've played on SSL since it was made and only thing I've found enjoyable and kept me playing/being there, was the roleplay. Especially after WotLK when I realized that you can grind your arse to pieces and there will still be better gear, there will still be endless grinding and eventually a new continent will appear. I rather spend my time on enjoying what I actually enjoy and it is roleplaying. You can still PvP and PvE here, it is just different and more tuned for roleplay -- and equal (skill dependable).

Also just because WoW might not be the shining star of roleplay, sure. Though Epilogue is doing good and the roleplay progresses in a good way. They are very good at scripting RP stories and plots you don't even know about, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGmC79nMsz0&feature=player_embedded

I still got my original account for perhaps the more grind dependable WoW.

But for now I like it here, you get to know GM's and players and everyone is after the same goal, RP, nothing else. This brings the community into one big family.

Anywho while retail WoW might not be RP friendly, this realm is. For those who likes the WoW theme and mainly rikepkay then I recommand to try this. For me it's literally being in WoW roleplay heaven.

I am trying to registering my tavern chain the Silver Falcon now with Ruins of Silvermoon as a base of operations. Not technically a Pleasure Pits like you wanted, but a VIP area with succubus vendors is hopefully okay.
