PostSubject: The Thread for all the Shit we just couldn't let go of!   Mon Oct 19, 2009 4:47 pm

This thread can be used to continue all the lovely and quite entertaining discussions that are spawned from the various derailments that happen on this forum. So whenever a derailment becomes more interesting then the actual ontopic subject and the forum police tells us to shut the hell up, then just move it here and go nuts with it!

I'll start.

We all know WHY the posts got removed, that's not the issue. Just don't fucking delete shit like that, move it. (From now on in here maybe)

Also, there's nothing wrong with having a gay character in RP.

Forsakens shouldn't wield the Light.

You dont have to be a no-lifer who ploughes through all books and shit to know a good portion of the lore. I haven't touched neither the novels or the rpg books.

And danish sound like they're drunk when they talk.

SSL Horde is too carebear pink fluffy dress wearing take it up the bum happy fun fun twinkle dee twinkle doo teletubbie-ish nowadays and everytime they try to be evil they become like Jafar in Aladin and you're all beneath me, except those damn Lilith worshipping chicks who go "nah uh, you heel boy!"

And the Blood Elf Society would never ever ever ever ever ever ever let a troll host a royal ball. They just wouldnt.

And It's okey to be uncommon, as long as you know you are uncommon and thus have a good reason to be uncommon. And I mean a -good- reason.

And stop telling me that my RP is racist when my character is racist. Its World of Warcraft, not hello kitty island adventure. (Though the differences might be hard to spot sometimes)

I don't really want to bum Gurfang. I was really drunk that night.

I have ERP'ed.

And I love you all. Goodnight.

Couldn't say that better.

And never ever mix IC and OOC. I've been accused of being a Sexist and even reported for Role Playing that way. It was awesome.

I love the way Quint always gets sand in his vagina whenever his posts get messed with.

Like the new avatar though.

I disagree with you on this: There is not one single character in lore, or in the game that is gay, so I find this pretty odd if someone roleplays a lesbian or homosexual character. And no, I don't have anything against gay people.

Also agreeing on this one. I never read a WoWnovel or RPG-book and still I think I'm pretty aware of the Warcraft Lore.

Thrall? Duh

No seriously...They can not put a gay character into lore due to it being an international game and the fact that there is wishy washy easily offended people out there that would jump on such a thing.

I agree with Quint in that you can play a character attracted to his/her own gender, however, as I pointed out in a thread before, the society might be not tolerant with them. And no, same-sex marriage shouldn't be allowed in RP.
Maybe there are lore characters that are in fact gay, but never showed it (*cough* Kael'thas *cough* - no, just kidding, I know he had feelings for Jaina). Who would have suspected Albus Dumbledore being gay until J. K. Rowling told in an interview he is?

I agree with that too. The very nature of the Light is against undeath.

I have read none of these works either, though I played Warcraft III campaigns, so I know a big portion of lore from there. But you can get pretty much of the lore by actually reading your quest logs, etc.

Blizzard majorly fucked up with WoW Northrend expansion in China ... it's a huge taboo having skeletons and undead in Chinese society. Some major clusterfuck took place as a result (re coding of monsters) and also with their move to a new licensee.

And there are No Gays In WoW, as well as know. Hell's Teeth, this is an American company! (hard enough getting them to believe that God didn't create the world in seven days ...)

I see we don't share the same opinion.. I think being attracted towards other races is something different then being attracted to the same sex.
But let's stop this discussion, it is a typical yes vs. no debate Razz

And Bob ... I think the fact you're 17, like Jania MakesYouStandProud and disagree with Quint, makes you into a mass-murdering cereal (and serial) killer of the worst kind. I'm being totally ... serious. Like ... really? Cool

*sigh*

Let me say it again; I can really relate to m'dam Proudmoore. I don't like her, I just like her lore. I'm not attracted to her, since being attracted to a 3D-game-character is pretty.. odd in my opinion. Yes I'm 17, yes my english isn't very good and yes I sometimes disagree with people.
I don't really think I'm that much different then most normal people..

and yes, I know you are joking Nick.

I don't want to convince you, Siheld, or anything.
I just want to point out that the fact we haven't met any gay characters in WoW does not mean that homosexuality, as a psychological phenomenon, does not exist. How many gay characters do you meet in medieval legends? I'd be surprised if you could show me one. Does this mean there were no gay people in the middle ages? I don't think so; they just didn't talk about them.
(Greek mythology, on the other hand, has several examples of male homosexuality... Achilles and Patroclus were "very beloved friends", and Narcissus falls in love with his own reflection, obviously the same gender as him.)

Perhaps you are right Snicka..
But still not a single character is gay in game.. (except the Kal'dorei in Dragonblight)
If I would roll a female Draenei and RP her as a lesbian, I think I would not be accepted in the Roleplaying community, so RolePlaying a gay person is just not the thing to do.

Well we have given reasons to why there are a lack of them (since one gay Kal'Dorei is still a gay character) and reasons why it is not so far fetched, so not much more to be said on the topic.

There's difference in a character being gay and a character being explicitly gay.
I can bring up Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter as an example again. No character from the book knows that when he was young, he was attracted to his friend Grindelwald (who became a dark wizard later). Actually, you can read the books ignoring the author's claim that he's gay (as it is nowhere mentioned in the books themselves), he may be looked at as a straight man as well - in this case you can think he just liked and admired Grindelwald, and wasn't attracted to him.
Just like Dumbledore, some Warcraft characters may be gay without explicitly showing it. I'm not saying there are such characters, maybe you are right and everyone is straight.
About what I said about the middle ages - then, if two men were caught in homosexual act (called "sodomy" that time), they were tortured and executed for it.

Won't mention the undead and Light stuff, because...

Fortunately my undead priest is gay as well as a Light worshipper, so I can muscle in on this still! ^^ what I will say is...no gay people in WoW? That's just weird. Homosexuality is as old as civilisation, but more importantly it's universal. There just can't be any pretence at this world being realistic or well-rounded if gay people magically don't exist. And really, making characters explicitly gay would be pretty pointless on Blizz's part and court controversy, so why would they bother? It shouldn't be taken as a sign that there are no gays in Azeroth. There's precious few examples of sexuality in any form at all.

Also, on 21st century attitudes...less-than-enlightened characters are to be expected, but Azeroth is not at all related to any real world history. Women's rights are well along there, for a start, and WoW is a sanitized world in many ways (rightly, since anything more realistic would be a crap setting). I learned from experience trying to play a character right out of A Song of Ice and Fire (for those not familiar...very nasty, cynical and realistic fantasy series) jarrs just as much as playing a time traveller from the 21st century.

Indeed...Azeroths history has had more recorded racial hate, wars and splitting apart of worlds and other general bad nasty stuff...Which is why RL 21st century views and WoW views do not meld.

I do agree with your song though. Arguing the facts does indeed lead to a long road to nowhere.
